SINOSSI
Inghilterra, 1939. Grace, una studentessa manipolatrice, trascorre le sue giornate a sgattaiolare fuori dal cinema e a scrivere lettere lamentose ai suoi genitori nel tentativo di unirsi a loro in India. Quando il suo stratagemma funziona solo in parte, si ritrova abbandonata nella loro villa coloniale, con solo la sua ayah, Raissa, e uno strano cuoco britannico per compagnia. England, 1939. Grace, a manipulative schoolgirl, spends her days sneaking out to the cinema and writing plaintive letters to her parents in a bid to join them in India. When her ploy works only in part, she finds herself marooned in their colonial villa, with just her ayah, Raissa, and a strange British cook for company. Beset by the unfamiliarity of these new surroundings, and haunted by her own fantasies about them, Grace begins to act out against her reality with increasing hostility and violence.

Tijana Mamula è una regista e scrittrice italo-serba con sede nel Regno Unito. Tijana Mamula is a Serbian-Italian filmmaker and writer based in the UK. Her short films include an experimental trilogy on the Jasenovac concentration camp and its echoes in the present (Cousins, Nightflowers, and Ada, or -- Best Film winner at the 2021 Experimental Superstars festival); the documentary Obrenovac Under Water; and the existential noir A Happy Death, based on several works by Albert Camus. She has also directed a number of music and fashion videos, made the widely viewed supercut Homophobic Friends, and published the books Cinema and Language Loss (2012) and The Multilingual Screen (2016). She is currently engaged in a practice-based doctorate at Newcastle University, exploring the philosophical potential of literary adaptation. The Writing Box, which forms part of this project, has since screened and been awarded internationally. Mamula's first feature, a hybrid WWII fantasy titled Hotel Savoy, is in development.
